MIMIKA, CENTRAL PAPUA – The Task Force Police Operation Peace Cartenz together with Mimika Police, Tembagapura Police, Mimika Police, Amole Police Task Force, and related elements continue to investigate the shooting incident against three vehicles in the PT Freeport Indonesia convoy on Tambang Mile Point 60 Street, Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, Wednesday (2\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred around 08.25 WIT when a group of PT Freeport Indonesia vehicles moved from the Mile Point 68 Tembagapura area to Timika City. Based on the information obtained by the officer, the group consists of 15 vehicles, namely 13 units of buses, one unit of towing truck, and one unit of box car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When passing through the Mile Point 60 area, three vehicles in the group were shot, each of the bus with body number 140591, bus with body number 140575, and towing truck with body number 021074.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hull number bus 140591 which was in the fourth place in the convoy was hit by five shots, consisting of three shots from the front and two shots from the left. The results of the inspection found a number of gunshot marks on the windshield, glass and left door, as well as metal fragments on the dashboard, windshield protector, and vehicle roof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The bus with hull number 140575 which was in the sixth place found a gunshot hole on the top of the cabin that penetrated to the inside of the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the Towing Truck with hull number 021074 which was in seventh place was hit by three shots from the left. The inspection found gunshot marks on the door and rearview mirror of the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of Public Relations of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., when questioned on Thursday (9\/3\/2026), said that based on the results of the initial inspection, three vehicles in the group were shot. However, there were no casualties or injuries in the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“From the results of the initial inspection, there were three vehicles that were shot, namely two buses and one towing truck. However, there were no casualties or injuries in the incident,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Cartenz-2026 Peace Operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the drivers of the bus with hull number 140591 said that he had just realized that the vehicle he was driving had been shot after hearing several explosions while passing through the Mile Point 60 area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The driver of the bus with hull number 140575 also admitted to hearing the sound of an explosion when passing through the area. He just found out that his vehicle was shot after an inspection was carried out at Mile Point 58.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the driver of the Towing Truck with hull number 021074, explained that he heard three gunshots from the left side of the road when the group passed from the direction of Post RPU 47 to Post RPU 46 in the Mile Point 60 area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following up on the incident, joint personnel conducted an inspection of the affected vehicle and processed the scene of the case at the shooting location. From the results of the inspection, the officer secured a piece of vehicle glass and six pieces of metal that were suspected to be related to the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, as a result of the crime scene at the location, the officers secured three casings of 5.56 millimeter caliber ammunition that were found around the scene. All of the findings have been secured for the benefit of the investigation process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of Public Relations, explained that the suspected perpetrator is still in the process of investigation. The officer has not determined a certain group as the perpetrator because it is still necessary to deepen and verify all the information and evidence that has been obtained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“For the party who is suspected of being the perpetrator, it is currently still in the process of investigation. Officers are still investigating witness statements, evidence, and findings in the field to ensure the party responsible for the incident,” explained the Public Relations Task Force of the Operation Peace Cartenz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the incident, the management of PT Freeport Indonesia has also made a Police Report Number LP\/B\/13\/IX\/2026\/SPKT\/Polsek Tembagapura\/Polres Mimika\/Polda Central Papua through Polsek Tembagapura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Head of Public Relations added, the next investigation process will be carried out with the Mimika Police and related elements to uncover the perpetrator and the motive behind the shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The investigation continues. We will investigate every finding professionally and based on facts, so that the process of handling cases can be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the applicable law,” added the Head of Public Relations of the Cartenz-2026 Peace Operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, Inspector General of Police. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., emphasized that the safety of the community, workers, and all users of the Tembagapura line is a priority in handling the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Shooting at vehicles that are carrying people and workers is an action that can endanger safety. We ensure that the law enforcement process will be carried out professionally and measurable based on evidence and facts found in the field,” said Head of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Operations Peace Cartenz-2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., added, personnel along with all related elements will continue to strengthen security along the Tembagapura line and adjust it to the development of the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We urge the public and all line users to remain calm and not easily affected by information that has not been verified. If you are aware of a potential security disturbance, immediately report it to the authorities through the available channels,” said Deputy Head of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Until now, the Task Force Police Operation Peace Cartenz together with the Mimika Police is still continuing the investigation by studying the evidence, the drivers’s and witness statements, as well as the results of the examination at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
