Puncak \u2013 The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2026 has once again demonstrated its commitment to law enforcement and maintaining security stability in Central Papua by successfully apprehending a 24-year-old man identified by the initials YM, who is suspected of involvement in the shooting of a PT Freeport Indonesia employee in Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
YM was arrested by personnel of the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2026 on Saturday (June 6, 2026) at approximately 08:55 a.m. Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT) in the Kago Market area of Ilaga, Puncak Regency. The arrest was the result of an intensive investigation and follow-up inquiries conducted since the shooting incident that claimed the life of the late Simson Mulia in March 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of Public Relations for the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2026, Senior Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., stated that the operation against YM was carried out based on investigative findings indicating his alleged involvement in the shooting that occurred at the Ngapua Reclamation Enviro Bunaken Grasberg Area, Tembagapura District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis arrest is part of the law enforcement process against individuals suspected of involvement in armed violence resulting in loss of life. The suspect has been secured and is currently undergoing further examination,\u201d said Senior Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on preliminary questioning, investigators suspect that YM played a supporting role in the operation by monitoring the movements of security personnel and civilians around the scene of the incident. These allegations remain under further investigation as the inquiry progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The successful arrest marks an important step in efforts to identify and bring to justice all individuals suspected of involvement in the shooting. Authorities are also continuing to develop the investigation to trace the network of armed groups operating in Central Papua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief of Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., emphasized that every individual involved in acts of violence will be processed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis arrest demonstrates the seriousness of law enforcement authorities in thoroughly investigating cases that result in the loss of human life. We will continue to work professionally and proportionally to ensure public safety and provide legal certainty for the people of Papua,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief of Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, Senior Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., said that investigators are continuing to examine YM\u2019s role in the shooting case, including the possibility of his involvement in other criminal cases currently being handled by law enforcement authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At present, YM remains in custody and is undergoing intensive examination by investigators of the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2026.
