Jayapura – Acts of violence and destruction of public facilities in Papua have sparked deep concern from traditional institutions.
The Head of the Port Numbay Indigenous Community Institution (LMA), George Arnold Awi, called on the armed criminal group (KKB) to immediately cease all anarchic actions that harm civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Head of the Port Numbay LMA’s request is intended to maintain security and public order (Kamtibmas) in the Papua region.
Awi emphasized that peace in Papua must be achieved through collective awareness without resorting to arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harmony in this conflict-ridden region will not be achieved if basic infrastructure continues to be the target of mob violence.
“We must protect this land of Papua together with a calm heart. I urge our brothers and sisters who still resort to violence or weapons to stop attacks that harm ordinary people,” Awi said in an official statement in Jayapura, Papua, Wednesday (May 27, 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Awi, public facilities are vital assets that support the lives of indigenous Papuans.
Infrastructure such as schools, community health centers, and places of worship were built with significant funds to serve the public interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The destruction of public facilities directly impacts the quality of life and future of Papua’s younger generation,” he stressed.
The Ondoafi of Nafri Village also warned that the psychological impact of armed conflict is deeply damaging to society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Innocent civilians are often the primary victims of ongoing tensions.
“Public facilities belong to everyone; they are where our children learn and where our citizens seek medical treatment. Don’t destroy them. Acts of violence only bring trauma and misery to innocent civilians,” Awi said.
Awi further called on all elements of society to unite to counter provocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traditional leaders, religious leaders, and members of various ethnicities must strengthen ties to maintain harmony.
