Through the Large Quarantine of Papuan Animals, Fish, and Plants, officers succeeded in foiling the circulation of 4,19 tons of damaged food commodities that entered through the sea route.

The commodity consists of 4,09 tons of fresh fruit and 100 kilograms of enoki mushrooms sent from Surabaya, East Java. When arriving at Jayapura Port, all the cargo was found to be in a condition that was not suitable for consumption so destruction was immediately carried out.

Executive of duty (Plt.) The Head of Quarantine in Papua, Krisna Dwiharniati, said that this success was the result of strict supervision of officers at the entrance of the region.

“Our inspection is carried out thoroughly on every incoming commodity. From the results of the inspection, it was found that fruits such as grapes, apples, oranges, kelengkeng, and pears were in a damaged condition, including enoki mushrooms that are no longer suitable for consumption,” he explained.

He revealed that commodity damage was suspected to occur during the distribution process. Refrigerated containers that originally functioned properly experienced a breakdown during a sea trip that lasted about seven days, so the quality of the product decreased.

Furthermore, Krisna emphasized that the destruction action is a preventive measure to ensure that food products circulating in the community remain safe and healthy.

“This is a form of our protection to the community. Commodities that do not meet the standards should not be circulated because they are at risk to health,” he said.

Throughout the year 2026 until April, the Papuan Quarantine has done similar actions several times. In addition to the destruction of fruits and mushrooms, officers have also destroyed beef and refused the entry of rice and chicken that did not meet the quarantine requirements.

This step shows that the supervision at the port is not only administrative, but also the main line of defense in maintaining the quality of food consumed by the community.

With increasingly tightened supervision, Papuan Quarantine is committed to continue to prevent the entry of risky commodities and ensure food distribution in Papua still meets safety standards, quality, and consumption feasibility.

Jayapura – Efforts to protect the community from the circulation of food that is not suitable for re-consumption are shown through the firm steps of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) in the Papua region.
