This attempt to categorize natural resource management rights is considered to be detrimental to the values \u200b\u200bof brotherhood and the long history of Papuan ancestors.
The Chief of the Moora Tribe in Nabire Regency, Donatus Sembor, strongly condemned the statement by the TPNPB-OPM Commander, Aibon Kogoya, who stated that coastal residents are only allowed to fish in the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Donatus considered this statement misleading and could divide the unity of Indigenous Papuans (OAP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“As a coastal community leader, I deeply regret the emergence of statements that attempt to limit the OAP community’s access to natural resources in the forest,” said Donatus, Wednesday (March 11, 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Donatus emphasized that the seven indigenous regions in Papua have boundaries that have been determined by the Creator and their ancestors.
These natural boundaries are already very clear to each tribe and do not require any new arrangements from outside parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He referred to local wisdom that the growth of ironwood, matoa trees, and the presence of taon-taon birds are signs of legitimate customary territory.
Donatus continued, explaining that from a customary law perspective, disturbing or moving ancestral land boundaries has serious spiritual consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also warned that violating customary land rights could bring curses to descendants down to the seventh generation.
This spiritual value provides a strong foundation for indigenous communities to maintain their rights to their respective lands and forests.
“Who is their struggle for, and where should they fight? It’s a shame if Aibon compartmentalizes Papuans,” Donatus emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
