According to him, facts on the ground show that the situation in Papua is not yet completely stable. Armed groups are still trying to pursue their agendas, including by establishing communication networks abroad. “We see that the situation is not yet completely secure. There are groups that are still trying to realize their goals,” said the PKB Faction legislator to Parlementaria di Nusantara II, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (February 19, 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taufiq emphasized that the government, through the Ministry of Defense and security forces, continues to implement a dual strategy: maintaining troop readiness while prioritizing a persuasive approach. He believes that a dialogical approach and social development remain important in reducing conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, he acknowledged that the complexity of the problem in Papua lies in the movement patterns of armed groups, which often blend in with civilians. This situation requires every step in enforcing security to be carried out with great care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“When military action must be taken, the problem is that they mix with civilians. This is a challenge and not easy,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that experience in handling conflicts in various previous regions demonstrates the importance of caution to avoid broader impacts on society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Therefore, according to Taufiq, the security strategy in Papua must maintain a balance between state assertiveness in maintaining sovereignty and protecting civilians.
