YAHUKIMO \u2013 A brutal assault against a female betel nut vendor shocked residents of the Ruko Block A complex in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, on Tuesday (February 17, 2026). The victim sustained two stab wounds to her right shoulder after being attacked by two unidentified men while earning her livelihood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim, identified by her initials E.K. (33), is a woman originally from East Nusa Tenggara (Alor). She makes a living selling betel nuts and is known among local residents as a friendly vendor who routinely conducts her business in the area. She resides on Jalan Gunung, Dekai District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred while the victim was serving customers. Two men arrived on a black Honda Beat automatic motorcycle from the main road and stopped beside her stall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim recognized one of the perpetrators physically, as he had frequently purchased betel nuts from her. However, what had previously been an ordinary customer interaction suddenly turned into a violent act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Without much conversation, one of the assailants approached the victim and abruptly pulled out a knife. Within seconds, he stabbed her twice in the right shoulder. Caught off guard and unable to defend herself, the victim collapsed. The two perpetrators immediately fled the scene on their motorcycle toward the post office area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim was rushed to Dekai Regional Hospital (RSUD Dekai) and is currently receiving medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upon receiving the report, a joint team from the Damai Cartenz Task Force, Yahukimo Police, and Brimob backup personnel from Papua Regional Police promptly moved to the hospital to ensure the victim\u2019s condition and gather witness statements. Officers also secured the crime scene and collected several pieces of evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on preliminary analysis and witness descriptions of the suspects, authorities strongly suspect a connection to sympathizers of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) Kodap XVI Yahukimo. The group had previously been involved in the arson attack on Ruko Block A on February 14, 2026. Investigators are continuing to examine the possible motives and network behind the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of Operation Damai Cartenz 2026, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that his team will not tolerate any acts of violence against civilians, particularly women who are working to support themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAny act of violence against the community, especially against a woman who is earning a living, is unacceptable. We will pursue and take firm legal action against the perpetrators in accordance with the law,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the stabbing of a civilian reflects a pattern of intimidation and terror that cannot be allowed to grow within the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Operation Damai Cartenz 2026, Senior Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, confirmed that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly by utilizing all available evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have secured and are analyzing the evidence to identify the perpetrators. We are also questioning witnesses around the crime scene. We urge the public to remain calm and to immediately report any information regarding the suspects\u2019 whereabouts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
