The Head of Carstensz Peace Operation 2026, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., emphasized that the Carstensz Peace Operation aims to guarantee citizens’ constitutional rights to express their opinions, while maintaining a conducive security situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Carstensz Peace Operation is here to ensure Papua remains safe and peaceful. The expression of aspirations is part of democracy that must be respected, and our duty is to ensure that the process runs orderly and does not lead to conflict,” said Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This commitment was demonstrated through security measures at the demonstration held by the All-Indonesia Yahukimo Student Front (Front Mahasiswa Yahukimo Sejahtera Sejahtera) at the Yahukimo Regency DPRD Office on Wednesday (January 21, 2026). Security involved personnel from the Cartenz Peace Operation, the Yahukimo Police, and the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) of the Papua Regional Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before heading to the DPRD office, the protesters gathered in the Dekai City Clock area. Approximately 500 people then marched in an orderly manner along several main roads in Dekai City, supported by one four-wheeled vehicle and dozens of motorcycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the Yahukimo Regency DPRD Office, the protesters conveyed their aspirations through speeches, reading statements, and submitting official documents. These aspirations essentially contained views and demands related to security issues, the construction of military posts, investment, national strategic projects, and the planned expansion of New Autonomous Regions (DOB) in the Yahukimo region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Various elements of society voiced their opinions, including university students, traditional leaders, school children, Yahukimo women, and civil society representatives. The entire process of conveying their aspirations proceeded peacefully and in a coordinated manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At 1:15 p.m. WIT, the official statement of position was submitted to the Yahukimo Regency Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD). Deputy Speaker I of the Yahukimo DPRD, Minggituk Kobak, S.Si., stated that the DPRD had received all the aspirations and would follow up according to the applicable mechanisms by submitting them to the central government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yahukimo Police Chief, AKBP Zet Saalino, S.H., M.H., emphasized that the National Police (Polri) upholds freedom of expression in public as a constitutional right of citizens, as long as it is carried out in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The National Police are here to protect all members of the public. We respect the peaceful expression of aspirations, and security measures are being implemented solely to maintain a conducive public order and security situation,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker I of the Yahukimo Regency DPRD commended the security forces for their professionalism and humane actions, which ensured the safe and orderly conduct of the entire demonstration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the presentation of their aspirations, the protesters gradually dispersed and left the location.
