Listyo Sigit Prabowo, together with the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, retired TNI General Djamari Chaniago, and several ministers and heads of related institutions, conducted nationwide monitoring to assess the public security and order situation during the New Year\u2019s Eve 2026 celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The monitoring activity was carried out virtually via a Zoom Meeting on Wednesday night (December 31, 2025). For the Papua region, the monitoring was centered at the pier of the Directorate of Water and Air Police (Polairud) at the Papua Regional Police Headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The activity was attended by Papua Police Chief Inspector General Patrige R. Renwarin, Deputy Papua Police Chief Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, senior officials of the Papua Regional Police, and representatives of regional government agencies and related institutions. Among those present were the Head of the Papua Provincial Development Planning Agency Jimmy Albertho Yosaphat Thesia, the Head of the Papua Provincial Search and Rescue Office Anton Sucipto, and the Assistant for Intelligence of Kodam XVII\/Cenderawasih Colonel Imam Wibowo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the monitoring session, the Papua Police Chief delivered a comprehensive report on the latest public security conditions to the Chief of the Indonesian National Police and the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs. He emphasized that security arrangements for the New Year\u2019s Eve celebrations in Papua had been thoroughly prepared through strong inter-agency coordination and cross-sector synergy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of 2,155 joint personnel from the Indonesian National Police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) were deployed to secure New Year\u2019s Eve activities across Papua. The deployment was based on intelligence assessments and risk analysis tailored to the level of vulnerability in each area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The security operation was preceded by a readiness assembly involving approximately 500 TNI\u2013Polri personnel, led directly by the Governor of Papua, retired Police Commissioner General Mathius D. Fakhiri, as a demonstration of full preparedness ahead of the year-end celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to visible security measures, the Papua Regional Police also implemented preventive actions to anticipate potential disturbances to public order, particularly traffic accidents caused by reckless driving and the increased consumption of alcoholic beverages, which commonly escalate during New Year celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Preventive patrols were intensified, including operations at locations suspected of alcohol consumption and distribution, as well as enhanced security at crowded public areas and identified vulnerable points across Papua, Papua Highlands, and South Papua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, retired TNI General Djamari Chaniago, expressed his appreciation to the Papua Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) for their readiness and solid coordination in maintaining security stability. He stressed that the performance and cooperation among security stakeholders must be maintained and further strengthened throughout the ongoing Operation Lilin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Coordinating Minister also extended New Year\u2019s greetings to communities in Eastern Indonesia who entered 2026 earlier, expressing hope that the New Year celebrations would be welcomed in a safe, orderly, and peaceful atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, the public security and order situation in Papua during the New Year\u2019s Eve 2026 celebrations was reported to be safe and under control.
