The discussion is focused on the fulfillment of the six Minimum Service Standards (SPM) which are the basic rights of Papuan Indigenous People (OAP).

In a press statement delivered in Jayapura, Thursday, Minister of Home Affairs Tito explained that the six SPMs include education, health, basic infrastructure, housing, public order and community protection, as well as social services. These six sectors are considered as the main foundation in improving the welfare of the Papuan people sustainably.

“The strengthening of these six Minimum Service Standards is a priority because it concerns the basic needs of the community, especially the Papuan Indigenous People. The fulfillment must be done in an integrated and continuous manner,” said Tito Karnavian.

According to the Minister of Home Affairs, the fulfillment of the six SPMs requires strong policy harmonization between the central government and local governments, both at the provincial and district/city levels. Currently, the Papua region consists of six provinces and 42 regencies/cities, so cross-sector coordination is the key to the success of accelerating development.

“It is necessary to synchronize policies between ministries and agencies with local governments so that the programs carried out are on target and provide direct benefits for the Papuan people, he explained.

He emphasized that the collaborative approach will accelerate the realization of development programs, as well as avoid overlapping policies and budgets.

In the working meeting, Minister of Home Affairs Tito also conveyed the important agenda of the central government related to Papua. He revealed that next week the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, is scheduled to lead a strategic meeting with the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of the Development of Papua’s Special Autonomy, regional heads throughout Papua, as well as the ranks of the Red and White Cabinet Ministers.

“The meeting will discuss the achievements of the program that has been running, the direction of the future policy, as well as concrete steps to accelerate the development of Papua,” said Tito.

This national level meeting is expected to strengthen the commitment of all stakeholders in supporting the implementation of Papuan Special Autonomy more effectively and siding with the interests of the community.

Jayapura – The Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Tito Karnavian, held a working meeting with Committee I of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia to discuss the strengthening and acceleration of development in Papua.
