Jakarta \u2014 The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) strongly condemned the recent acts of violence carried out by armed civilian groups (KSB) in Central and West Papua, which have resulted in casualties among civilians and law enforcement officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first incident occurred in Soanggama Village, Homeyo District, Intan Jaya Regency, on Wednesday (October 15, 2025), leaving 14 people dead, including members of the armed group and civilians. Two days later, another attack took place at Kali Semen Street, Wadio Atas, West Nabire District, killing one civilian and injuring seven others, including three security personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Violence also targeted two LP3BH humanitarian volunteers, Kornelis Aisnak and Ruben Frasa, who were reportedly intimidated and assaulted while delivering aid to displaced residents in North Moskona District, Teluk Bintuni, West Papua, on Friday (October 17, 2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cKomnas HAM condemns the shootings and all forms of violence that caused deaths and injuries, including intimidation against humanitarian workers,\u201d said Komnas HAM Chairperson Anis Hidayah in Jakarta, Saturday (October 18, 2025). She urged the government to immediately stop the violence and review the current security approach in Papua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Komnas HAM reaffirmed that the use of violence can never be justified under any circumstances. The Commission also called for impartial, transparent, and accountable law enforcement, while encouraging all parties to prioritize dialogue in order to maintain peace and uphold human rights in Papua.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
