Jayapura, August 8, 2025 \u2014 A former Acting Mayor and prominent Papuan intellectual has called on the public to remain calm and united following the re-vote (PSU) for the Papua gubernatorial election held on August 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He addressed concerns arising in the aftermath of the vote, where both gubernatorial camps have declared victory based on early reports from polling stations and independent surveys. According to him, these claims are premature and not grounded in official results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe public must stay calm and avoid being provoked by unverified information. We need to respect the vote-counting process until the official results are announced through the plenary session,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that both candidate pairs \u2014 BTM\u2013CK and MDF\u2013Mariyo \u2014 are among Papua\u2019s finest sons, and urged everyone to honor the outcome once it is officially declared by the election commission (KPU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet\u2019s avoid hatred, conflict, or any actions that may damage the bonds of brotherhood \u2014 whether in person or through social media. Political differences must not divide us,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also reminded the public that Papua, as a province, bears a moral responsibility to set an example for the newly established surrounding provinces in upholding peace and democratic values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
