Wamena, Highland Papua \u2014 The Jayawijaya Regency Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening food security and improving community welfare by utilizing the 2025 Special Autonomy (Otsus) funds. Approximately IDR 9.1 billion has been allocated to support various agricultural and livestock empowerment programs across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of the Jayawijaya Agriculture Office, J. Hendri Tetelepta, stated that the funds will be distributed to farmer groups in 40 districts, focusing on two main sectors: crop cultivation and livestock farming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis year\u2019s Otsus allocation targets both local food crops such as sweet potatoes, taro, and vegetables, as well as national staples like rice, corn, and soybeans. We are also promoting livestock farming, particularly pigs, broiler chickens, and laying hens,\u201d Tetelepta said on Monday (June 23).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative is a response to productivity challenges in agriculture and livestock\u2014key livelihoods for many residents of Jayawijaya, especially Indigenous Papuans (OAP). The government aims to increase harvest yields, improve food availability, and stimulate local, community-based economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tetelepta explained that these sectors have a direct impact on the people\u2019s basic needs and offer great potential for job creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to technical assistance, support will also be provided in the form of inputs such as fertilizers, seeds, and infrastructure, delivered gradually to eligible and active farming groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur goal is to empower the community as productive economic actors, not just as aid recipients,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
