PAPUA – The public is urged to be more careful in receiving and spreading information circulating on social media, especially content related to the security situation in Papua. This appeal was conveyed following the circulation of two violent videos that were claimed to be the latest incident by the armed group, but based on the results of the Task Force Police Operation Peace Cartenz-2026, the two recordings were documentation of an old incident that was re-spread with different narratives.
The results of the search revealed that there were efforts to build fear in the community through the spread of violent recordings accompanied by certain claims and threats. The content is considered to have the potential to cause unrest and affect the security and order situation of the community in the Papua region.
The first video with a duration of 1 minute and 15 seconds shows the persecution of three women that is claimed to have occurred in Dekai, Yahukimo Regency, on Friday (10/30/2026). The TPNPB-OPM group called the recording a punishment for people accused of military intelligence as well as a form of revenge for the death of their group members.
However, based on the identification results of the Task Force Police Operation Peace Cartenz-2026 team, the recording is known to have been uploaded first through Facebook social media in March 2025. Thus, the claim that stated that the incident in the video took place at the end of October 2026 is not in accordance with the results of the police’s search.
Meanwhile, the second video with a duration of 31 seconds was distributed by the Kodap III Ndugama Derakma group with the narrative of the murder of a driver crossing Wamena-Nduga who was accused of carrying TNI logistics supplies. The incident that claimed to have occurred at the end of March was also again linked to a threat to the community, including the state civil apparatus (ASN), medical personnel, and immigrants to leave certain areas.
Head of Public Relations of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026 Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T, explained that the police had traced the two recordings to confirm the facts behind the information circulating.
“The two videos that are widely circulated are purely old documentation and are a form of propaganda by the KKB side,” said the Head of Public Relations when confirmed, Saturday (10/31/2026).
Furthermore, the Head of Public Relations Task Force of the Operation Peace Cartenz-2026 Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T, explained that based on the identification results, the driver’s murder incident that became the second video material actually occurred on April 20, 2026. The victim was known to be named Robert Terry alias Sula, not Regeny Jems Patty as the narrative spread by the group.
He assessed that the redissemination of old recordings with different identities and times of the incident is a form of provocation that can cause a wrong perception in the community.
“This is a form of provocation of their influencer Sebby Sambom so that the public is afraid. This action is purely seeking attention and cheap propaganda,” said the Head of Public Relations.
According to Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T, the spread of the content needs to be handled wisely because unverified information can increase public unrest. Therefore, the public is asked not to directly believe or disseminate videos whose true source and time of occurrence are unknown.
The Task Force Police Operation Peace Cartenz-2026 emphasized that efforts to maintain Papua’s security are not only carried out through security measures in the field, but also through searching for information that has the potential to trigger public fear and unrest.
The public is expected to remain calm, carry out activities as usual, and prioritize information from official sources and can be held accountable. If they find suspicious content related to the security situation, residents are urged to verify and report it to the authorities.
Through this step, the Task Force Police Operation Peace Cartenz-2026 invites all elements of the community to jointly keep the information space healthy, not easily provoked, and continue to support the creation of a safe, peaceful, and conducive Papuan situation.
