Developing Local Products, MSME Jayawijaya is Pushed to Penetrate a Wider Market

WAMENA, PAPUA PEGUNUNGAN – The development of regional superior products is one of the steps that is considered important to strengthen the role of micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) in encouraging the economic growth of Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Pegunungan.

The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) of the Republic of Indonesia encourages UMKM actors in the region to continue to improve the quality of local products so that they have competitiveness and are able to reach a wider market.

Assistant Deputy for the Functional Development of the Entrepreneurship Development of the Ministry of MSMEs, Adi Trisnojuwono, said that the potential of Jayawijaya’s local products is quite diverse and needs to be better management and packaging.

“UMKM products such as coffee, noken, and various original handicrafts must be packaged well so that they can be accepted in local, national, and even international markets,” he said in Wamena, Monday.

According to Adi, improving product quality is not only related to production results, but also includes how the product is displayed and marketed. With good packaging, local products are expected to have added value as well as be easier to introduce to consumers outside the region.

He assessed that various promotional activities that provide space for MSMEs to display their products can be part of efforts to expand market access.

One of them is through a mini exhibition held by the Jayawijaya Regency Government together with the Regional National Craft Council (Dekranasda) of Jayawijaya Regency. The activity is considered to provide an opportunity for business actors to introduce their work directly to the public.

“We feel satisfied and proud of the mini exhibition and the launch of Noken Cenderawasih which was held by the Jayawijaya Regency Government and the Jayawijaya Regency Dekranasda,” he said.

Adi said that the support of the local government is an important part in creating a space for UMKM actors to continue to create and produce products that have a regional character.

According to him, the spirit of MSME development needs to be maintained by encouraging business actors to continue to increase creativity, innovation, quality, and marketing skills.

He added, Jayawijaya has the potential of local products that can be developed into part of the community’s economic strength. Therefore, the development of MSMEs is not only directed towards increasing the number of products, but also how the products have added value and are able to compete at various market levels.

“The encouragement of the Jayawijaya Regency Government is very good in mobilizing MSMEs to create and work so as to produce extraordinary products,” he said.

With the support of the local government and the involvement of business actors, the development of coffee, noken, and various local crafts is expected to provide wider economic benefits for the community as well as introduce the wealth of Jayawijaya products to markets outside the Papua Mountains.
