NABIRE – Chairman of the Nabire Forum for Religious Harmony (FKUB), Rev. Mordekai Oila, S.Th., has called on young people to play an active role in strengthening unity and harmony amid the diversity of communities in Central Papua.
He said young people hold a strategic position as the next generation who will shape the future of Papua. For this reason, they are encouraged to set an example by fostering mutual respect and appreciation for differences in ethnicity, religion, race, and social backgrounds.
Rev. Mordekai noted that the rapid flow of information must be accompanied by greater awareness and responsibility among young people. He urged them not to easily believe or spread information whose accuracy has not been verified, particularly content that could potentially trigger conflict and undermine social harmony.
“Young people must be able to carefully filter the information they receive. Do not be easily provoked by issues that could divide our unity and brotherhood amid our diversity,” he said.
He also encouraged young people across Central Papua to spend their time participating in positive activities that can strengthen relationships among communities. Involvement in social, religious, educational, sports, and community activities, he said, can serve as an effective way to foster solidarity and togetherness.
Furthermore, Rev. Mordekai emphasized that young people should not merely receive messages about peace, but should become active participants in promoting tolerance and creating a harmonious atmosphere within their respective communities.
“Young people must become pioneers in promoting tolerance and peace. Let us build solidarity, respect our differences, and never allow those differences to become a reason for division,” he stressed.
He also called on the wider community, particularly religious communities across Central Papua, to continue strengthening harmony while maintaining communication and tolerance among people of different faiths.
“I call on everyone, especially religious communities, to work together to preserve harmony, uphold interfaith tolerance, and actively contribute to creating security and public order throughout Central Papua,” he concluded.
