Mimika, Indonesia – Children in Waa Banti Village, Tembagapura District, Central Papua, are receiving additional educational support through the Honai Belajar (Learning Honai) program, an after-school initiative jointly organized by the Tembagapura Sector Police and the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026.
Held every Monday through Friday, the program offers supplementary lessons in reading, writing, and mathematics, providing local students with an opportunity to reinforce what they learn in school while spending their free time in a structured learning environment.
Inside the traditional Papuan honai, children gather with notebooks and learning materials, working together in small groups under the guidance of police officers and task force personnel. The sessions combine basic literacy and numeracy exercises with interactive discussions, creating an informal setting where students are encouraged to participate actively and build confidence in their learning.
Deni Tabuni, a youth leader from Tembagapura, welcomed the initiative, saying it has become an important source of educational support for children in the village.
“I appreciate the Honai Education Program in Tembagapura for encouraging our children to continue learning and stay motivated in their education,” he said on Wednesday.
According to Tabuni, access to education remains a key priority for local communities, as it equips young people with the knowledge and skills needed for their future. He expressed hope that the program would continue so that more children could benefit from additional learning assistance beyond regular school hours.
He also acknowledged the role of a stable security environment in enabling families to carry out their daily activities, including allowing children to participate in community learning programs.
“I appreciate the Indonesian National Police, particularly the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, for helping maintain security in Papua so that people can go about their daily activities with greater peace of mind,” he said.
Tabuni added that sustained educational initiatives such as Honai Belajar could help create broader opportunities for children in Waa Banti Village while strengthening public confidence through continued engagement between local communities and public institutions.
The Honai Belajar program is one of several community outreach initiatives implemented by the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 across Papua. Through the program, children receive supplementary instruction in basic literacy and numeracy, while community members have opportunities to engage directly with task force personnel in an open and collaborative setting. The initiative aims to support children’s educational development while fostering constructive communication between security personnel and local residents.
