Jayapura – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Papua Province recorded an increase in the Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) in June 2026, primarily driven by improved performance in the horticulture subsector, which made the largest contribution to the rise in farmers’ welfare across the province.
Acting Head of BPS Papua Province, Emi Puspitarini, said Papua’s NTP reached 100.98 in June 2026, up 0.20 percent from 100.78 recorded in May 2026.
“The increase in Papua’s Farmer Exchange Rate in June 2026 was mainly supported by the strong performance of the horticulture subsector, which recorded the highest growth among all agricultural subsectors. In addition, the increase in the Farmers’ Price Received Index (It), which outpaced the increase in the Farmers’ Price Paid Index (Ib), also contributed to the improvement in the NTP,” Emi said.
She explained that the horticulture subsector posted the highest growth at 1.95 percent, followed by estate crops, which increased by 0.89 percent. Meanwhile, the food crops and livestock subsectors each declined by 1.08 percent, while the fisheries subsector fell by 0.40 percent.
According to Emi, the Farmers’ Price Received Index (It) increased by 1.29 percent in June 2026, exceeding the 1.09 percent rise in the Farmers’ Price Paid Index (Ib). This indicates that farmers’ income from agricultural products grew faster than their household consumption and production costs.
“An increase in the Farmer Exchange Rate reflects an improvement in farmers’ purchasing power, as the prices received for agricultural products rose more rapidly than the prices farmers paid for goods and services,” she added.
In addition to the NTP, BPS also reported that Papua’s Farmer Terms of Trade for Agricultural Business (NTUP) reached 105.07 in June 2026, an increase of 1.05 percent compared to the previous month, indicating a positive trend in the province’s agricultural business conditions.
Nationally, Indonesia’s Farmer Exchange Rate stood at 127.65 in June 2026, down 0.06 percent from May. Despite the national decline, Papua was among the 18 provinces that recorded an increase in NTP during the reporting period.
