Dekai, Yahukimo – Operation Peace Cartenz is again taking law enforcement measures against armed criminal groups that have been disrupting security stability in Papua. On Friday (6/19/2026), the joint personnel of Ops Damai Cartenz managed to arrest a member of the HSSBI group with the initials AB alias UB in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency.
The arrest was carried out around 16.30 WIT after the joint team monitored the target that was detected in the Ruko Block A area, Dekai District. Based on the information in the field, the officer found the information on the location of the target.
Head of Public Relations Operstion Peace Cartenz-2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., said to the media (20/6), that the success of the arrest of AB alias UB is the result of cooperation and follow-up information in the field regarding the whereabouts of one of the members of the HSSBI group in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency.
“When it was about to be secured, the person concerned tried to escape so that the officers took firm and measured action to stop his escape. From the results of the arrest, the officers secured two 5.56 mm caliber ammunition, one mobile phone unit, and a number of personal belongings belonging to the suspect. Based on the results of face matching and deepening the evidence found, the person concerned was identified as part of the HSSBI Battalion which has often disrupted security in the Yahukimo area,” said Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T.
Furthermore, the Head of Public Relations explained that the results of the case development directed the team to a house that was suspected to be a stopover for the HSSBI group. From that location, officers secured a man with the initials BK and seized various evidence in the form of communication devices, optical telescopes, documents, mobile phones, sharp weapons, and other equipment that are currently still being investigated by investigators.
“Based on the results of the initial investigation, AB alias UB is known to be part of the HSSBI Battalion and is suspected of being involved in the shooting of armored vehicles belonging to the Marine Task Force in the Dekai area on December 13, 2025,” said the Head of Public Relations.
In addition, the person concerned is also involved in the criminal act of possession and use of firearms and ammunition without rights as recorded in the Police Report Number LP/A/25/VI/2026/SPKT.Satreskrim/Polres Yahukimo/Polda Papua.
“In that case, the suspect was charged with Article 306 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding the alleged possession and use of firearms without rights. In addition, the suspect was also charged with Article 458 in conjunction with Article 459 of the Criminal Code about the alleged attempted murder due to shooting at a vehicle that endangers the safety of other people’s lives. Based on these articles, the person concerned can be threatened with a maximum prison sentence of 15 years,” said the Head of Public Relations.
Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, Inspector General of Police. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., emphasized that this success is part of the continuous efforts of the apparatus in maintaining the security of the Papuan people from the threat of armed criminal groups.
“The law enforcement that is carried out is a measurable and professional step in order to protect the community from various acts of violence carried out by armed criminal groups. We will continue to make firm legal efforts but still uphold the principles of human rights and applicable procedures,” said Head of Operation Peace Cartenz.
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Operations Peace Cartenz-2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., said that the success of the arrest was the result of the synergy of all elements of the Task Force that continued to map and develop the network of armed criminal groups in Papua.
“We will continue to develop the results of this arrest to reveal the network and parties involved in the activities of armed criminal groups. There is no tolerance for criminal acts that disturb the people in Papua. The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz is committed to maintaining a security situation so that the community can carry out their daily activities safely and comfortably,” said Deputy Head of Operations Peace Cartenz.
Currently, the two people are still undergoing an intensive examination at the Yahukimo Police Station for the sake of further investigation and development. The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz ensures that the entire law enforcement process is carried out professionally, measured, and in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws and regulations.
The police also appealed to the public to remain calm and not easily provoked by unverified information and invited all elements of the community to jointly maintain security and order in Yahukimo Regency and the Papua region in general.
