Wamena – The Tolikara Regency Government in the Papuan Highlands region has declared the values of Pancasila as the foundation for strengthening the unity of its citizens.
Tolikara Regency Regional Secretary Yosua N Douw stated in Wamena on Monday that ideally, Pancasila should be a way of life, the basis for strengthening the unity of all Indonesian people in Papua.
“The values of Pancasila must be a way of life or a fundamental way of life, strengthening unity in the life of the nation state, strengthening the values of unity in Papua,” he said.
According to Douw, the 2026 Pancasila Day commemoration carries the theme: “Pancasila unites the nation, the foundation of world peace.”
“This theme reminds all Indonesians, from Sabang to Merauke and from Miangas to Rote Island, of the true meaning of Pancasila,” he said.
He explained the meaning of Pancasila as a unifying nation and the foundation of world peace, as Pancasila has the power to unite diversity while bringing justice and peace.
He emphasized that these messages find very real relevance in Papua.
“Papua, as a region on the eastern horizon of Indonesia, possesses extraordinary cultural richness, natural resources, and socio-cultural diversity,” he said.
He added that Papua has recently faced various development challenges that require a real and just state presence.
“We urge all Indonesians, and Papuans in particular, to ground the values of Pancasila, which must be realized in all aspects of life,” he said.
In governance, he said, the values of Pancasila demand the presence of a professional, transparent, and people-centered bureaucracy.
“Regional expansion and the creation of new autonomous regions (DOBs) must be a means to improve public services, not simply add to the government structure,” he said.
