Encourage Optimal Services, the Government Focuses on Improveing the Health System in Papua

Jakarta – Efforts to improve the quality of health services in Papua are now entering the acceleration stage, with the central government paying special attention to improving the governance of regional hospitals. This step is seen as the key to ensuring more optimal and equitable health services for the community.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Ribka Haluk, emphasized that the government did not only stop at the evaluation, but immediately moved to the implementation stage of the improvement. The affirmation was delivered after the implementation of technical guidance (bimtek) online with hospital directors in Jayapura, as part of a series of cross-sector coordination follow-up.

According to Ribka, the various steps taken at this time are a continuation of working visits and coordination meetings that have previously been held with stakeholders, including local government elements and regional leadership coordination forums. From the series, the government obtained a comprehensive picture of the challenges faced by the health sector in Papua.

One of the main points of attention is at the Yowari Hospital, which is the location for the identification of a number of crucial issues. These problems include the clarity of the status of hospital land certificates, the need for security through the National Police post, to the improvement of the internal management system which is considered to need to be improved thoroughly.

The government assesses that the completion of these aspects is an important foundation in building a professional and sustainable health service system. Therefore, concrete steps are immediately prepared so that the improvement is not only administrative, but also has a direct impact on the quality of service to the community.

As part of the acceleration strategy, the Ministry of Health through the Directorate General of Advanced Health appointed RSUP Dr. Sardjito to provide technical assistance. The national referral hospital will build three health facilities in Papua, namely RSUD Dok II, RSUD Abepura, and RSUD Yowari.

This guidance is expected to be able to encourage the transformation of hospital governance comprehensively, starting from service management, strengthening human resources, to improving operational standards. With the synergy between the central and regional governments, the improvement of the health sector in Papua is believed to be faster and directed.

This step also confirms the government’s commitment in providing decent, quality, and accessible health services evenly by all Papuan people.
