BMKG Urges Mimika Residents to Stay Alert for Rain, Prioritize Health and Safety During Activities

MIMIKA – The Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) Mimika Regional Office has urged the public to remain vigilant following forecasts of light rain expected to affect all districts across Mimika Regency on Thursday (February 19, 2026).

Since early morning, cloudy skies have been observed in several parts of Timika City. Along Jalan Nawaripi toward SP 4 and the Pomako Port area, residents continued their daily activities as usual. Traffic was relatively heavy at around 07:15 WIT, mainly as schools resumed teaching and learning activities after the national holiday celebrating the Chinese New Year 2577 Kongzili.

Meanwhile, traffic flow along several roads such as Jalan Hasanudin toward the Central Market and Jalan Petrosi appeared lighter, coinciding with the first day of fasting for Muslims. Similar conditions were observed on Jalan Hasanudin, Jalan Irigasi, and Jalan WR Supratman, where overcast weather did not significantly disrupt community activities.

BMKG forecasts that most areas of Mimika will experience cloudy conditions with the potential for light rain. Districts including Mimika Timur, Jita, Jila, Mimika Tengah, Mimika Timur Jauh, Mimika Barat Jauh, Mimika Barat Tengah, Hoya, Amar, Alama, Mimika Baru, Agimuga, Mimika Barat, Kuala Kencana, Tembagapura, Kwamki Narama, Iwaka, and Wania are expected to experience similar weather conditions.

Through this forecast, BMKG reminds residents to pay close attention to weather updates before engaging in outdoor activities. The public is encouraged to carry umbrellas or raincoats, wear appropriate clothing, and maintain their health.

Residents are also advised to remain cautious of sudden weather changes, including the possibility of water pooling or disruptions caused by rainfall. With collective preparedness, it is hoped that daily activities can continue safely and smoothly.
