Nabire, Central Papua – In an effort to reduce the unemployment rate while improving the quality of human resources (SDM), the Governor of Central Papua, Meki Nawipa, SH, officially released 120 Papuan Indigenous People (OAP) to participate in the workforce training program to a number of Work Training Centers (BLK) outside Papua, Friday (9/19/2025).
The training participants will be sent to five training locations, namely BLK Makassar, BLK Sorong, Pandawa Farm, and BLKK Pesat Nabire. The release of the participants was held in the courtyard of the Central Papua Governor’s Office, and was also attended by the Head of the Central Papua Manpower, Transmigration, Energy and Mineral Resources Office, Frets James Boray.
In his speech, Governor Meki Nawipa emphasized the importance of improving the skills and expertise of the participants to be able to compete in the world of work, as well as opening up new business opportunities in their respective areas.
“We hope that this training will not only make them a ready-made workforce, but also able to produce new entrepreneurs. That way, the unemployment rate can be reduced, and the economy of the Central Papuan people can be more independent,” said Governor Meki.
Furthermore, Meki Nawipa emphasized that the development of a new autonomous region will be successful if supported by qualified human resources. According to him, the employment sector plays a vital role as a development driver in Papua.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Manpower Office, Frets James Boray, explained that the provincial government is also preparing the construction of the Central Papua Work Training Center (BLK) in Kaladiri, Nabire. The BLK development planning has been included in the 2025 budget, and it is expected that in early 2026 the physical development will begin and be completed at the end of 2026.
The existence of BLK Central Papua is expected to become an independent work training center, so that the young generation of Papua does not always have to attend training outside the region.
With this step, the Central Papua Provincial Government emphasizes its commitment to build superior, competitive, and able to become a driving force for development on its own land.
