Ahead of the simultaneous Pilkada to be held on November 27, 2024, Rev. Telius Wonda, Chair of the Gidi Mulia Classis of Puncak Jaya Regency, appealed to all elements of society to jointly maintain security stability and create a peaceful atmosphere during the election process.
In his statement, Rev. Telius emphasized that the success of the Pilkada does not only depend on the readiness of the security forces, but also on the active role of the community in maintaining order and peace. He invited all levels of Puncak Jaya society to collaborate with the security forces and religious leaders to ensure that the 2024 Pilkada runs smoothly and safely.
“We call on all Puncak Jaya people to maintain security and order during the Pilkada. Security is our shared responsibility, not just the security forces. Let us create a conducive atmosphere that supports the smooth running of the Pilkada,” said Rev. Telius.
Rev. Telius also reminded the public to be careful of information that could cause provocation or division. In a sensitive situation ahead of the Pilkada, information that is not clear about its truth can trigger social tension and damage peace. He emphasized the importance of filtering every piece of information received and ensuring that only news that can be accounted for is disseminated.
“We must be wise in filtering the information circulating, especially that related to the Pilkada. Fake news or news with unclear sources can trigger tension in the community. Don’t be easily provoked,” he said.
Furthermore, Rev. Telius emphasized that collaboration between the community and security forces is key to maintaining order during the Pilkada. By working together, all stages of the Pilkada can run successfully, creating a safe, peaceful, and conducive atmosphere for all Puncak Jaya residents.
“The community has a big role in maintaining the security and smooth running of the Pilkada. We believe that with good cooperation between the community, security forces, and religious leaders, the 2024 Pilkada in Puncak Jaya will be safe and peaceful,” concluded Rev. Telius.
